Cabbage Facts

Cabbage, one of the oldest vegetables, continues to be a dietary staple and an inexpensive food. The cabbage is derived from a leafy wild mustard plant, native to the Mediterranean region. It was known to the ancient Greeks and Romans; Cato the Elder praised this vegetable for its medicinal properties, declaring that “it is first of all the vegetables”. There are at least a hundred different types of cabbage grown throughout the world.

The world record for eating cabbage is held by Charles Hardy. He ate 6 pounds 9 ounces in 9 minutes.
