Lion Facts
The lion is the second biggest cat in the world. The Lion is described as a large, carnivorous feline mammal (Panthera leo). Lions have a short tawny coat, and a tufted tail, and male lions have a heavy mane around the head and neck.
Lions are native to Africa and Northwest India. The common habitats are both open plains and open woodlands. The diet consists of meat – both large and small game. The collective name for a group of Lions is Pride.
The name or offspring, or a baby Lion, is a cub, whelp, or lionet who lives in a lion’s den. The name of a female is referred to as a she-lion or lioness.
