The name of the genus of pepper plants of the nightshade family, capsicum also refers to the fruit of the plants. Capsicum takes its name from the Greek, ‘to bite,’ a reference to the hot pungent properties of the fruits and seeds.
Capsicum has been used as a digestive aid to ease intestinal inflammation. Capsicum is commonly used to buffer pain from other ailments, including arthritis, headaches and respiratory conditions such as asthma.
